Description
Pink guavas are a delicious tropical fruit. They can be eaten fresh and used to make juice, jams, deserts, or pastries. Guavas are a good tree to grow from seed because a healthy seed grown tree produces fruit in 2-4 years. The fruit from seed-grown trees are also of good quality. All of our guava trees are grown from seed. The fruit range in size form 2 to 4 inches long. Our trees have flowers or fruit pretty much all year long. However, in Florida they have two main seasons with one being in the summer and another in the winter. The fruit tend to be smaller when the tree is growing many fruits at a time. To get larger fruit you can remove some of the fruit when they are small.
Guava trees can reach up to 40 feet tall, but they can be kept pruned to a small tree or bush. They will fruit while still small so this is a good fruit tree for container gardens. The fruit can be eaten while green, however, we only eat them when they are ripe. You can harvest your guavas when the fruit easily detaches from the tree and are light green. At peak ripeness the fruit should be very fragrant and have a yellow-green color.
We mainly use our guavas to make guava juice! It can be made by cutting the fruit up into chunks, blending it with water, then straining the juice to remove the seeds.
