Description
You will receive soursop (guanábana) seeds that are harvested from our soursop trees in Miami, Florida. The seeds are shipped dry. Properly dried soursop seeds remain viable only for a few months. These seeds need to be planted as soon as possible after you receive them. The soursop is a fruit tree, which makes it a perennial. It is most commonly grown from seed. Seed grown trees take around 3-5 years to reach maturity and bear fruit. Only one tree is needed for pollination.
In order to grow these seeds we recommend soaking them for a few hours in water and using the paper towel method to germinate them. You can also plant some of the seeds in pots. The seeds take 2-4 weeks to germinate. They also need warm temperatures throughout (mid 70 to mid 80 degrees Fahrenheit).
The soursop is a popular large tropical fruit. The flesh is creamy and white with a refreshing sweet and sour flavor. It belongs to the family Annonaceae, which is also known as the Annona family. It is used fresh, in recipes, and medicinally. The skin, seeds, and central core of the fruit are inedible. The soursop has gained popularity in recent years for its medicinal purposes. The leaves are dried and made into a medicinal tea. We mainly eat our soursops fresh. When we have a surplus we peel them, remove the seeds, and freeze the flesh in order to make smoothies later on.
